Freedom Gates Boys Ranch is located an hour and a half southwest of Wichita, Kansas. The ranch sits on more than 20 acres in the northeast corner of Hazelton, KS. Our office address is 200 N. Church St, Hazelton, KS 67061.

We accept boys aged 11 to 17 years.

We offer both a short-term and a long-term program: • Short Term: Minimum 18 months • Long Term: Through high school graduation If a boy’s stay is longer than the 18-month minimum, additional skills are taught, such as budgeting, handling finances, and interview skills.

Boys receive three well-balanced, home-cooked meals each day, and they may help prepare them. We have school on campus tailored to each boy’s level. A licensed therapist comes on-site once a week to meet with each individual. Boys also work with livestock including goats, chickens, cattle, and horses, help build fence, learn electrical and plumbing work, and learn many other trades, along with helping with daily household tasks. Other activities may include: • Horsemanship • Lawn care • Physical fitness

No. When Freedom Gates Boys Ranch began, the board decided that the most un-Christlike thing we could tell families would be that they could not receive help because they didn’t have money. For that reason, we do not charge tuition and do not turn boys away due to financial need. A family’s financial support would never impact their child’s ability to enter the program. We do not receive any state or federal funding, and our program is funded purely by donations (except for a small percentage of mental health services).

Yes. We have a school on campus that follows the Accelerated Christian Education Curriculum, overseen by a full-time teacher. Each boy is tested upon entry to determine the appropriate grade level. The teacher works closely with the boys, helping them improve their grade level. If a boy is behind, the teacher helps him catch up. Our school runs year-round with six weeks in school followed by a two-week break.

Our staff holds to Biblical principles and demonstrates those principles through daily work, activities, and time with the boys. Boys learn about God and Jesus during devotions, where they are taught directly from the Bible.

Freedom Gates Boys Ranch services include: • Spiritual training • Individual and group counseling • Crisis intervention and peer mediation • Activities of daily living training (such as housework and cooking) • On-site classroom education • Animal husbandry and equine program(s)
